November’s Lincoln WI meeting was a festive craft session getting ready for Christmas, with simple but effective ideas for gift bags and Christmas decorations.  We also had our annual Advent calendar collection which will be donated to the Lincoln Larder.

Using brown paper bags, which are often used to package shopping and are easily recyclable, we made gingerbread style gift bags. Members decorated them with gel pens and the finishing touch was a bow. We made cones from old cereal boxes and glued yarn and other decorations to them to make mini Christmas trees. One member had had her husband foraging for pine cones which were painted and made into mini-Christmas trees. We also used wallpaper to make gift boxes and DIY bauble garlands. We also made hats from yarn and cut up toilet rolls, which fitted a Cadbury’s chocolate bauble underneath.

Everyone dived in quickly and whilst the descriptions of what we made may sound uninspiring hopefully the images will show otherwise.

As well as crafting we enjoyed some homemade festive treats of mince pies.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 4th December, 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start at the Grandstand on Carholme Road. Members are free, guests £5, first visit is free – bring a mug. We will be listening to Adam, from Bread and Cheese, will be talking and also bringing along items to buy, get your Christmas larder stocked up early.
