This month Lincoln WI held a social event, August is always a tricky month with members on holiday and busy doing non-WI things. The normal Lincoln WI meeting was replaced by a social event, where, due to erratic weather we decided to have an indoor picnic and a game of walking rounders.

Fortunately the weather favoured us and a cool evening followed a hot day and a very pleasant evening was spent having nibbles and chatting. In the spirit of all the summer sporting activities: Paris Olympics, Wimbledon, Tour de France we played a game of walking rounders.

No running was allowed for either fielders or batters and a rolling system of fielding, bowling then batting was instigated. For the more competitive natured members some speed walking and much shouting was involved and for those less competitive a dawdle and a lot of laughing. Players exhibited some excellent batting skills and on more than one occasion the fielders were foraging for the ball leaving rounders to be easily scored. There were also a couple of great catches, leading to some cheering.

A winner was eventually declared, being the woman who had both caught a call and scored a rounder, but there were no prizes, only short lived glory!
