May’s meeting was about the annual resolutions, which weren’t particularly controversial this year, rural bus services and don’t fear the smear.

Living in Lincolnshire, a large rural county buses are an important part of the local travel infrastructure, and many members depend on them, especially as the trains don’t go to many places, considering how large Lincolnshire is. This resolution was passed to campaign to protect rural transport.

The other resolution was don’t fear the smear, to encourage women to go for their smear test. Cervical cancer is the most common form of cancer for women under 35, and many avoid going for their smear. There is also a lot of mis-information about going for a smear, Jo’s Trust is one of the UK’s leading charities about cervical cancer and the WI are pleased to get behind this campaign.

The members were also treated to a talk from Plastic Free Lincoln, who are campaigning to rid Lincoln of plastic waste. They brought a lot of samples to show people what they can use rather than plastics.

Nina also brought along the peace blanket, it was huge and a year in the making in conjunction with the Muslim Sisters Lincoln – well done Nina & the Sisters.
