This month we had Dr Erik Grigg talk to us about the prison break from Lincoln Prison by Eamon de Valera who went on to be a leading figure in the Irish Republican movement (prior to separation from the UK) and afterwards the Taoiseach on three occasions.
Dr Erik concentrated on the escape from Lincoln Prison and the role of fruit cake (it is the WI afterall) and the use of messages disguised in letters. de Valera’s escape 100 years ago, is currently the only succesful one from Lincoln Prison, so Lincoln residents can still sleep safely in their beds.
Finally we collected a huge pile of tissues for Supporting Minds, a local mental health charity, and also presented them with a cheque for £150 which we raised during our annual cake sale.

Our next meeting on 2nd May will be our Annual Resolution Meeting, as usual at the Grandstand for 7.30pm.
