Well it was a busy old year for Lincoln WI it started with a big bang of glitter as the Cat’s Pyjamas Burlesque troupe came and spoke to us.

In February we indulged in chocolate with local chocolate artisan Okie Coco giving us an in depth talk on chocolate and lots of yummy sample too.

March saw Jenny from Jenny’s Jams, who makes our delightful jam, tell us how she fell into jam making and again there were plenty of sweet treats for all those present.

Spring definitely sprung in April when Rachel Petheram, local florist showed up beautiful floral arrangements  using wild flowers.

May saw local ice-cream maker Robin Dennett tell us about his truly local business, which has been in Spilsby for 3 generations. He regaled us with stories of how his grandfather took ice-cream on the train to London to enter competitions.

In June we had an Antiques Roadshow style meeting when Antique Auctions came to value our attic finds. There were some interesting items brought including an icon with a mysterious past and a stuffed turtle.

We also held our first outside fund raising event, Liberteas ,to celebrate 800 years of the Magna Carta. A copy of which resides in Lincoln, this was great fun in St Mary Magdalene’s church in Lincoln Bail area. A fabulous cake sale, that despite the torrential rain, was a roaring success.

July carried on the Magna Carta celebrations and the Friends of Lincoln Castle told us about Nicola de la Haye, a truly inspiring and impressive woman from the twelfth century.

August had most of us running about the Bail competing in quiz before retiring to the Magna Carta, who kindly put a room to one side for us. We also held a second cake sale in the Bail to coincide with the Asylum Steam Punk festival.

As the nights started to draw in the September meeting had us making felt flowers with Eve Marshall. A hugely busy meeting and I’m pretty sure in the future Eve will visit again.

October was our annual birthday party, and this year’s cake was spectacular thanks to Wendy.

The members’ market in November gave members and guests and opportunity to buy crafty gifts ready for Christmas. In November we also got involved with The Time is Now film festival, celebrating women in film and culminating in an exclusive screening of Suffragette with a talk by the film’s historical advisor Professor Krista Cowman.

The final meeting of the year in December was a Christmas party and gave all members a chance to socialise and relax before the busy Christmas period.

Check out our 2016 programme to see how busy the coming year’s going to be. Our calendar gives an update to date overview of events organised by Lincoln WI and other events that we will (probably) be attending.
